An extract from “Abu Talks”

Questioner:

It is often suggested there is a kind of warfare between the forces of good and evil in the spirit regions. Is there any organised opposition to the powers of light by supposed powers of darkness?

Abu:

The squabbling on the Earth plane continued until the fourth and fifth generation? No; my son. There is opposition. There is even what would appear to be a form of organised opposition to the truth, the light and the good. But this does not stem from the spheres above. It stems from the planes below; from the Earth plane itself, from the dark, gloomy, heavy spheres close to the Earth and below the Earth, in terms of vibration. Since those of us who wish to bring the light must necessarily enter into the conditions of the Earth world in order to make the light shine forth, we encounter this same opposition. But it is not organised by beings in the realms above, who descend contemporaneously with ourselves having been presumably quite amicable hitherto - to continue our battle on the Earth's surface!

I have spoken of my 'armour,' my 'sword' and the battle in which I was to take part. I was happy to know the hands of my spiritual children were to be strengthened that they might fight side by side with me.

There is a battle. But the forces of ignorance and darkness - which I call evil forces are here on Earth. We, who descend in the endeavour to bring a little light, must combat them here.

Were the forces of evil and darkness in the sphere where, for example, I myself dwell -I will permit myself an earthly parallel - I would remain 'on the spot' in order to do battle.

As I am far more at home there than here, I could achieve more good by fighting evil in such an 'altitude' than by descending to this level and handcuffing myself, as it were.

Yes, there is opposition -and you do not have to seek far to find plenty of opposition on the Earth.

Also, many unhappy and unworthy people pass from the Earth life into spheres very close to the Earth, which are even heavier. Opposition will arise from them. But it is with love, sympathy and compassion that we will fight them. It is their ideas we detest and against which we fight.

The individual spirits ~ the opposition - they are the prize. It is they whom we are endeavouring to save, help and uplift - not destroy.

Ignorance and the many things which hold the spirit down and prevent it from rising to greater heights, these are the things against which we must fight. The opposition is here, on Earth, and that is why we are here!

Questioner:

A phrase known to most of us refers to 'spiritual wickedness in High Places.' I don't understand this. Perhaps it is a distortion of the facts as you have presented them?

Abu:

The phrase, carried to its logical conclusion, would lead to the admission that there is a Devil who sits on a rival throne to God, for if spiritual evil and wickedness exist in high places, where then shall it cease to be?

Upon the next plane to your own, there is potential evil, of course, for man takes with him his unworthiness and his evil propensities which have not been worked out on the Earth plane. They cannot be, for the Earth plane is the testing field. It is there that man garners his unworthiness and wickedness, or his love and holiness, if I may use such a word.

As the spirit of man - little by little, with greater or lesser degrees of labour, with much or little need of help - sheds these things and rises up through the spheres, he leaves the dross behind him.

Eventually - at an infinity we cannot possibly conceive the diamond will shine forth in its pristine purity. This jewel-like state had, in fact, never been harmed but merely overlaid.

To suggest that this diamond should take its mud with it into the Presence which is the source of all warmth, life and love, is foolish. Were this the case, what goal would there be for us to aim at? I assure you, this is not so.
